HOW TO LOOK AFTER YOUR HEALTH - as we come out of lockdown

What we can do for our MENTAL and PHYSICAL health as we come out of this lockdown? As a city, we have been through some ups and downs this year and it may be challenging for many to prepare for the fact that restrictions are easing and what that means for our day to day lives. It took time for us to prepare and settle into #isolockdown and it can be expected that there may be some hesitations coming back out and reconnecting with our ‘regular’ activities and social life.

We have 5 TIPS to help you along the way:

1. Be Gentle - each person is in a unique situation and it is important not to judge ourselves harshly or compare ourselves to what others are doing. This is STILL a time of uncertainty, change, challenges and we can only do the best we can do each day.

2. Keep to the basics - Find a new routine, stay connected to loved ones, eat well, get adjusted and exercise. These are the foundations that helped many as went into lockdown and it is even more important as we remain in a high stress period during the gradual easing of restrictions.

3. Focus on what can be controlled - it may feel like a lot of things may be out of our control. This can lead to feelings of fear and anxiety. Have a plan, written or typed up that outlines steps you can take that are in your control, this could include food, exercise, appointments and rest time. This may be a good area to get an NET clearing if you feel like you need a little more assistance.

4. Take things at your pace, time and preference - Go at the pace that feels right for you. In your time, find a way to reconnect with friends and family safely and in a way that you feel comfortable. You can go as fast or as slow as you and your body (/nervous system) is happy with.

5. Try something new each day - One step at a time, try a new thing, it could be going a longer distance from your home, or venturing to the shops for the first time. Try and vary your routines so that you see different people and encounter different situations. If one supermarket makes you nervous, try another. If a walk at one time of the day is very busy, try mixing walks at busy times with walks at quieter times. Finding your ‘new normal’ may take time, and that is perfectly okay.

We are always here to help you through these interesting times.
